The Baroness Consortium Social Welfare Initiative (BCSWI) proudly introduces EmpowerHome, a transformative housing program designed to provide rent-free housing for up to one year to 10 women facing economic challenges in Southern New Jersey. This initiative is more than just shelter—it is a strategic investment in financial independence, offering participants the opportunity to focus on saving for a down payment on a home, reducing debt, and positioning themselves for long-term economic stability.
Housing insecurity remains a significant barrier for low-income women. In Southern New Jersey, median rental costs are disproportionately high compared to income levels:
This financial gap forces many women into cycles of paycheck-to-paycheck living, with little opportunity to build financial security.
EmpowerHome is a catalyst for lasting change. By providing stable housing and financial empowerment, BCSWI ensures that participants do more than survive—they thrive. This program is a steppingstone to a brighter future, where women can achieve true independence and financial security.
EmpowerHome Housing Stability Program
Housing instability disproportionately affects women of color in Southern New Jersey, limiting their ability to achieve financial independence. The median rent in Cherry Hill, NJ, is $2,123 per month, while the median per capita income for Black women is $38,362 and $30,934 for Hispanic women (U.S. Census Bureau). These financial disparities force many women into cost-burdened housing situations, where over 50% of their income is spent on rent, leaving little room for savings or debt reduction.
Women in underserved communities face systemic barriers to homeownership, including low credit scores, student loan debt, and a lack of generational wealth. Without targeted intervention, they remain trapped in cycles of financial instability.
The EmpowerHome Housing Stability Program will provide 10 women with rent-free housing for one year, allowing them to focus on saving for a home, reducing debt, and advancing their careers. By removing the burden of rent, participants will have the opportunity to transition into homeownership, creating long-term economic stability for themselves and their families.
The average rent for a two-bedroom apartment in South Jersey is $2,183 per month. For women recovering from trauma, incarceration, and abuse, this number stands between them and stability.
Our Keys to Independence – EmpowerHome initiative is on a mission to support 10 women for one full year, helping them secure safe, dignified housing as they rebuild their lives. But we can’t do it alone.
We need 500 people to give just $44/month—that’s $524 a year—to fully fund rent support for these women.
Together, that’s $261,960—one year of freedom, healing, and transformation for 10 deserving women.
You don’t have to change the world alone. But by joining 499 others, you absolutely can.
